Apprentice surgeon

In my dream
Gordje
von Strom told Natasha

In my dream
it was your first day
at work

As an apprentice
to both Dr Griffith

And Dr Bob Griffith

They had agreed to let you
learn
the full gamut
of their combined knowledge

You had a fresh and crisp
white lab coat

Dr Griffith
and his brother Dr Bob
Griffith

Both

Were so advanced
in their surgical mastery
that they would wear
casual attire
even for surgical operations

Dr Griffith
the more formal of the two
wore a tweed suit

Put his trilby hat
with a feather in the band
down on the heart monitor

Doris
who was the theatre assistant
moved it
to a spot
on the book case
near the fish tank

And told Dr Griffith
that as it is heart surgery today
they might need the heart
monitor

Dr Griffith seemed surprised
and looked in his diary

Oh yes
it is too

Dr Bob Griffith
seemed more casual than his brother

Himself wearing short trousers
with long socks
that come to the knees
and a Hawaiian shirt

With pictures of surfers
and waves
and date palm trees on it

Doris was dressed
like a surgical nurse
her attire
included a face mask
and rubber gloves

And Gordje
in his dream lay
on the operating table

Having offered himself
as a specimen
for scientific
and medical research

In the dream

Dr Griffith
seemed to be fossicking
around
in Gordjes chest

Occasionally he would ask his brother
is this it?

No?

What is this?

Have you ever seen one before?

Natasha noted
in her notes

That Dr Griffith had said

Is this the
(word not clear)?

Then followed by
do you think
he needs it?

Followed by an
oops

Doris
with her this spectacles
covered by some goggles
closely watched the heart
monitor

Saying things like see
how when he gets
angry
the screen goes red

Or has to restart

Doris then squinted
and said this
error code
 says

Sometimes you shouldn’t
always believe yourself

And Dr Griffith saying
to Natasha how
it is
that most hearts are more
or less
the same

Dr Bob Griffith
agreed
saying that they can be
damaged
in service

Dr Griffith agreed

Natasha carefully noting it down

She had made a few
drawings

Of the inside of the heart

Whispering to Gordje
that when we remodel your laboratorium
it will look
like this

And Dr Bob Griffith saying
that when he replaces them
he likes to add
a few decorative features

That too much plain-ness
needs extra flavour
sometimes

Dr Griffith
agreed
again

Gordje
in his dream
wondering
how long they will be

And that it must be time
for afternoon tea

About mcgregor17

Explorer and adventurer of mind and other figments of the imagination. Born and based in Aotearoa/NZL Writing the curly path of life. Unfortunately I don't have any specific qualifications to give me any particular authority nor indeed permission to write. I write because it is my true work. And because I am a type of writer, in the manner that Tristran Tzara or John Cage or LeCorbusier were. I am probably an anarchist and/or a communist, a libertine and exopolitical. By way of biography, I am off nineteen sixties vintage, and currently residing in New Zealand. Other than the day to day working situation, any spare time would be spent wandering aimlessly the mountain ranges of NZ, watching clouds and rocks and weeds and plants and trees and looking after compost worms. Sitting zazen.
